Ocean Meditation

Last night, the ocean meditation created itself for me. I was filled with such deep peace afterward, I wanted to share it!

Ocean Meditation

Lie comfortably on your back. Let your arms to rest along your sides. Close your eyes.  Allow your breath to become soft and even. Relax.

Now, visualize a cork being removed from the sole of each foot. Into each opening pours the ocean. The water is warm, clean, peaceful, and blue. What color blue is the water? Is it shimmering aquamarine, or deep and tranquil midnight blue?

Let the ocean water slowly start to fill your body, traveling first up your legs. Don't worry about being overcome by the water; even at high tide, the gentle waves can only lap as high as your collar bone.

Allow the tranquil waters to fill your body, washing with a soothing strength over your hips, fingers, arms, organs, and ribcage. Feel buoyant and supported by the calming presence of the serene water. Stay here for several breaths or minutes.

Now, let the tide begin to lower, washing down slowly from your collar bone... down your ribs... and settling in a pool in your belly. Your heart is now open and exposed.

This is your lovely heart's moment to unfurl its wings. What color is your heart? Does it shimmer? Does it shine? Imagine the wings of your heart unfolding. What do the wings look like? Are they delicate and tiny like a hummingbird's?  Are they large, gossamer wings? When your heart opens, what do you feel?

Spend some time allowing your heart to fill the space around you, as the tranquil waters of your ocean pool inside your belly. Allow the feelings that arise to fill your whole being.

Spend some moments breathing in the perfect peace of this experience.

Then, slowly, allow the water from your ocean to begin draining down, past your hips, along the length of your legs, out your fingertips, through the soles of your feet. Re-cork the holes through which the water entered. Allow your heart to settle, newly filled with exuberance, into your chest.

Spend a few moments in joyful peace. Allow yourself three more deep breaths, and then slowly bring your awareness back to this space. Wiggle your fingers and toes, open your eyes. Smile.

"I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition."
    - Martha Washington

I'm a lively, fun-loving mother of two and small fitness studio owner who may drink champagne in glitter one night and drink green smoothies and stretch the next. Hence, my studio is called Balance. I help women reach their best physical and spiritual selves through kick-ass workouts mixed with gentle yoga and joyful affirmations. It works.
